Today on the blog I’m starting a new series taking an inside look at some of our favorite New England wedding venues. Today, Wedding Locations We Love: Ocean Edge Resort and Golf Club. We’re going to cover everything you need to know if you’re considering some of the most desirable venues in the area!
After last week’s surprise proposal at Ocean Edge, and the fact that we are planning an incredible wedding there this July, it seemed like there was no question Ocean Edge should be our first featured venue. They have the MOST wonderful staff, a beautiful setting, and we absolutely adore working with them. What’s not to love?
About the Venue: Ocean Edge is located on over 420 acres of beautiful Cape Cod real estate in Brewster, MA. As soon as you drive up to the resort you’re greeted by the red roofs of the stunning Nickerson family Mansion. (Think Newport opulence, meets Spanish elegance, meets Cape Cod charm!) The mansion is set on a bluff overlooking the ocean so it’s impossible not to get lost in the views of Cape Cod Bay. The sunsets on the Ocean Terrace are some of the most beautiful on the Cape!
Being able to stay on property is one of the benefits of this venue–for both you, and your guests. The AAA Four Diamond Mansion has 90 guest rooms, villas with access to a private beach, and town homes adjacent to the golf course. Allowing for you and your guests to stay on property basically turns your wedding into a little mini Cape Cod getaway–and no one is going to be upset about that.
Planner tip: I would also suggest looking for multiple hotel or home rental options for your guests to have a variety of cost options–because that’s just what good hosts do!
So confession time–I have always been enamored with Ocean Edge. When I was little, I would spend my summers about 10 minutes from the resort. Every time we’d approach the expansive green lawn I’d strain towards the car window ready to take in the sight of the beautiful buildings and gorgeous grounds, hoping to see a tented wedding on the front lawn. Funny how some things don’t change!
Event Spaces: One of my other favorite things about this venue is the sheer amount of event spaces on property–there’s 8! Whether you want a ceremony on the Mansion Lawn, a ballroom wedding in the Mansion Ballroom (which is the largest on Cape Cod!), or a beach ceremony on Bay Pines Beach–you have a choice! And, don’t we all love options?
The Ocean Terrace mentioned above for it’s spectacular views, is my pick for cocktail hour. For your reception, check out the Bay Pines Pavilion which is a beautiful draped space adjacent to the resort pool, and close to the beach. The Carriage House is another option and has a breathtaking view of the bay. It also provides a private covered terrace for your guests to enjoy when they need a break from the dance floor. If you’re having a more intimate wedding or rehearsal dinner, the Mansion features walkout balconies off of their dining rooms, and the Linx Pavilion allows for sweeping views of the golf course.
Phew! It can be a little overwhelming to have so many options, but it really is a great thing! If you’re wondering why, I have two words for you: variety and convenience. You and your guests can have a fire on the beach with s’mores after your rehearsal dinner, a ceremony on the Mansion Lawn, your reception in the Bay Pines Pavilion, and a morning after brunch in the mansion ballroom. Take advantage of everything your venue has to offer to give your guests an amazing experience.
Planner Tip: When visiting any venue, but especially one with multiple spaces to choose from: it helps to have an idea in your head before you go on a tour of any venue what space best suits your style, season, budget, and guest count. While you may fall in love with a different space than you originally thought, at least you have some parameters to give the venue in order to help them point you in the right direction.
Planning Process: Ocean Edge provides their brides with a coordinator to assist them with all things venue related, and to act as a valuable resource throughout the planning process. They will arrange linen rentals on your behalf, answer all venue related questions, and keep you on track with the venue throughout the planning process. And if you have a planner, Ocean Edge’s staff is wonderful to work with, and will be an invaluable asset to your planning team.
They also give their brides a preferred vendor list which provides you with a great place to start the process of finding your perfect vendors. The professionals on this list will have worked at the venue before, know how to work alongside the staff, and give brides an amazing client experience.
Ocean Edge offers a variety of wedding packages starting at $99. During wedding season, you will have an event minimum (or a certain amount of money that you are required to spend on food and beverage) that you need to meet, so make sure you ask your coordinator what that is in order to ensure that a specific venue falls within your budget constraints if you’re unsure.
Fav Bridal Perk: The Beach House Spa is opening May 2017 and with it comes an entirely new perk to being an OE Bride. Brides can reserve “The Porch” at the Spa which is gorgeous! It has tons of natural light to make your photographer super happy about all of those photos. You can book it for your bridal party to get ready in so you can really make getting ready a party! They have makeup stations (your makeup artist will thank you and you’ll feel like a Kardashian–not a bad thing when it comes to glam!). They also have a blow dry bar, dressing area, and food and beverage options so you don’t have to worry about anything.
I can’t even tell you how much of a lifesaver that is. The name of the game is not having to worry about anything more than getting pretty on wedding day. The space also boasts a Sonos system, which if you don’t have one is life changing. Your girls will be able to make playlists for you guys to listen to which you can hook up to the system via the Sonos app. It’s pretty amazing! God knows that getting gorge just doesn’t feel right without a killer playlist! Am I right?
And while you’re getting pretty, send the boys off to enjoy some golf. “The Nicklaus Design golf course is available to members and hotel guests, who have exclusive access to the resort’s recreational and social privileges.” It’ll keep them occupied (and on property) so we can make sure everyone stays close–and on schedule on the day-of.
The Verdict: Between the friendly staff, the variety of event spaces, and the on property perks of being an Ocean Edge bride, there’s no question that this venue should be at the top of your list when you’re hunting for the perfect Cape Cod wedding venue. And if you need a planner who knows the ins and outs of this incredible property, you know who to contact!
