Have I got an amazing post for you this week!? I’d like to tell you a fun little story about a photoshoot turned surprise marriage proposal at one of the most beautiful wedding venues on Cape Cod!
When it came time for Sean to propose, he knew he had to enlist some help in attempting to surprise Angela since it’s so tough to get anything by her. Sean and Angela are friends of friends who I had the pleasure of meeting a few years ago. Since then, I have gotten to know Angela who is one of the sweetest human beings on the planet. (For my our mutual friend’s 30th birthday Angela created a scavenger hunt all around the town we grew up in complete with clues, costumes, and shenanigans.) When Angela does things for others she goes all out, so I knew we had to do something totally amazing for her. Sean and I concocted the idea of having Angela model in a styled photoshoot which wasn’t a foreign concept to her since friends of hers had modeled in a previous shoot I had done a few months earlier.
When Sarina from Red Anchor Photo contacted me around the same time wanting to collaborate on a shoot, I had a brilliant idea! Why not tell Angela she was modeling for us in the shoot as a cover in order to create an amazing moment for them, and then have Sean pop the question while she was already so excited and feeling extra special? It would be perfect!
Sean and I worked through all the details. I arranged it so that we could borrow a fantastic dress from Chantel Lauren Designs and jewelry from Champagne and Glitter. Sean and I met a couple of times in order to find him the perfect suit for his big moment. I coordinated for professional hair and makeup from Tiffany Cantin, and consulted Angela about how she felt the most beautiful so we could ensure that she felt amazing. I found a FABULOUS location at Ocean Edge Resort on the Cape, and reached out to some other amazing vendors to be part of this special occasion. We hid all of the planning from Angela–she didn’t have any clue that all of this was going on behind the scenes.
The day of the shoot Angela was still completely in the dark. She got all dolled up and we all headed to the venue so we could start taking photos in various spots around the gorgeous grounds of Ocean Edge. While the happy couple did that, Katie from Bloom Floral Designs and I, ran down to the beach to set up the big moment complete with roses, floral teepee, and rose petal heart for him to kneel in. Sean wasn’t going to propose until they came down to the beach, but time was limited for set up because the sun was going down. Once everyone got down to the beach, the photographer starting directing the couple to get them comfortable and when the moment was right, Sean got down on one knee.
Are you crying yet? All of us got a little teary once he started kneeling since we knew what was coming next. Everyone had their phones out to capture the moment so we got it on video too! Angela had no idea what was happening at first and starting pulling at Sean to get up wondering why he wasn’t listening to the photographer. When she actually realized what was happening, she fell to her knees and hugged Sean–after saying yes of course! After she said yes it was time to pop the bubbly. Amazingly, Ocean Edge beat us to the bunch and had a chilled bottle ready to go! Once the fiancés had a minute to grab a glass of champagne and take a few more photos, we started to spill all of the secrets of the shoot!
Angela was totally surprised! She thought she was being proposed to a few months later because she has noticed some restaurant reservations on Sean’s desk-she had literally no idea this was coming which made it so much better. And the surprises didn’t stop after the proposal. Sean had arranged for Angela’s friends and family to meet them at the restaurant where they first met so they could celebrate with those nearest and dearest to them. Great job Sean!
This was such an incredible day! Angela and Sean such a lovely couple, and everyone involved was so thrilled to share in this amazing moment with them. Planning surprise proposals is one of my favorite things to do, so if you (or someone you know) needs help to come up with a killer proposal idea, have them contact me! I love helping to orchestrate these special moments!
Thanks for reading doll, and remember…
